I am glad that something good came out of my JC class gathering last Sat. To be frank, I was rather afraid that it will end up like the previous gathering where I ended up like glass, transparent to the rest who were deep in conversation. To be precise, I think they were busy making eyes and flirting with each other with suggestive comments. So much for making a goodwill gesture by attending, I had thought after concluding the previous class gathering.
This time round, the turnout was better off than the last at 10 i think. We adjourned at Fig's & Olives for dinner as planned. The atmosphere was warm but not cosy enough for some good interaction round. We had a big problem with the long dining table arrangement since this meant that talking was inevitably broken up into small pockets. I had a Classic BBQ Chicken Pasta and was nearly unable to conceal my amusement when the dish arrived. By the likes of it, I think the dish should have been named Classic BBQ Chicken with a splattering of Pasta instead/ Nevertheless, the chicken filet was done quite well though the filet came messily undone when sliced against the grain. The Vichy carrots and Broccoli pieces weren't well blanched though but the lion share of my annoyance went to the Cafe Latte. It was as bland as it looked and the accompanying brown sugar were in clumps, giving the impression that it was going to turn stale anytime soon. When I mean fine sugar, I mean fine in both sense of the word, you understand Fig & Olives?
Okay, back to the people of the gathering. I observed and concluded that much of the party hadn't changed much except for one or two. I was taken aback though when quite a number of them commented that I had changed dramatically beyond recognition. Right...(Coyly) Talk for the day was more wholesome and distributed as compared to the precious class gathering which gave me immeasurable relief. As expected, most of the talk resonated around updates for everyone else, University, Work and AJ. Due to the unflatteringly limited seating in the Mediterranean eatery, we felt compelled to leave after an hour or so. A wise choice following a discussion saw us taking to the soft grass atop Vivocity's rooftop terrace.
There we seem like cheesy and over-enthusiastic JC jorks once again. Like those whom were obviously fresh out of orientation week and out for some annoying antics in public. And so we were, god bless us, playing some pseudo-intellectual games on the grass pretending to be like Banglas while the real McCoys recline a stone's throw behind us... Hmmm... but on hindsight, i think those games could come in handy to xian girls :D
The night ended up soon for the party of us due to various reasons like work assignments or schoolwork which pretty sobered the guys up for the reality of University life. Oh, I heard that we will be having a chalet gathering in the beginning of June but I am not going to put my mind on that anytime soon. Outings maybe but when it comes to Chalets I am sure you can understand how disastrous or enjoyable they can be with the wrong company and atmosphere. And so there goes... my first real JC gathering after a hiatus of nearly 2 years.
