The Bread and the Ubiquitous Kaya Jam

Would you just have a look at that? All those wholesome goodness in the form of delicious bread! And even though i have just wolfed down 4 slices of light fluffy goodness, I am still eager for more. (But for sake of moderation, health and god knows what, that will have to wait another time...)

When i was studying in Primary School, my old home was situated in such a awkward manner such that although my school premises was literally in front of my apartment block, I had to traverse almost the entire length of the school fencing in order to enter through the gate. A daily and ironical affair which brings me walking past this particular bakery every morning without fail. As we all know, bakers and confectionists are darn hardworking people who rise way before the crack of dawn to start baking their little nifty delights.

I used to hate bread then. I don't know why but then, the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting through the air was almost guaranteed to make me retch. Well, almost. Perhaps the aroma was too strong for my juvenile nose i guess... Actually I strongly believe there is another reason why I reacted so strongly. According to my memory, my appetite for breakfast always take a tumble whenever my schooling is the morning rather than in the afternoon. I hypothesised that my appetite fo food is drastically affected by the amount of light in the atmosphere. In other words, when the morning sky is still dark, my appetite is poor. Interestingly my morning appetite improves tremendously on weekends when I was almost certain to consume my breakfast in blazing sunlight. Upon hearing that, farnee mum mum rejected the hypothesis almost immediately and denounced me for thinking that I was a "bird".

And so it was... One of my very first hypotheses, shot down without barely a whimper. Well, let's get back to the fluffy issue of bread shall we? For a very long period(in Mt Barebones), I was exposed to many ludicrous/ourageous/maddening/CMI/disgusting/fill in the blanks breakfast menus. In the midst of that harrowing period, i felt something stir within the depths of my stomach... I realised (finally) how nice bread actually is. In fact, my craving for bread rose to almost astronomical proportions. The fragrant aroma of freshly baked bread and the indulgence of the thick bread spread(I favour kaya very much, thank you..), my god...it's wondrous!

Hmmmm... so you get it don't you? My reborn liking for the bread as i have documented in the earlier paragraphs. However I've hit a snag as of late. You see, i ran out of delicious Kaya Jam. To me, the sliced white bread and the Kaya Jam is as inseparable as the Earth is to the Moon. Can you feel the agony that is coursing through my veins and tormenting my insides as they writhe in frustration?? No Kaya is like, is like... suddenly losing your zest for Life! And so I was in a conundrum for two days from the start of the week until someone offered to help me purchase a jar of Kaya Jam. I was grateful and i agreed readily but there was tremendous hesitation within me. For one thing that i have yet to reveal, I only take Swee Heng Kaya ok! But for obvious reasons, i couldn't blurt that out to my mysterious self-volunteer courier.

My fears prove to be founded. The kind Samaritan bought a particular Hercules brand of Kaya Jam. As much as I would like to, i refrained from making a -_- face in front of him. You see, this particular specimen of Pandan Kaya had a suspicious shade of green which obviously smacks of a helluva greenish food dye. And to compound things, I specifically told him to buy the largest jar available. T_T

Sadness is self-induced, how true!

My Swee Heng Pandan Kaya Jam, Oh how I miss you so!
