A resolve, i say...

I think that the authorities must have been pulling my legs both of them when they said that our transport system in place is world class. Good grief! Every instance that i take a bus or a train is akin to a tribulation. I am not exaggerating to go as far to say that each experience is a tremendous test of my patience and tolerance.

Just take for instance a journey that i had to take yesterday. It was a typical point A to point B sort of trip. The first thing i have to comment is the use of a trunk bus service for a route that should be better served by a feeder bus service. C'mon, doesn't it make sense for folks to take a short looping service in the heartland. If this doesn't make sense, then i sure see no logic in having a trunk service that ply from CCK all the way to Orchard Road to serve residents who just want a jiffy bus service that take them for at most 3 or 4 stops? As you would imagine, trunk service usually have a much much lower frequency of operations for economical reasons.

I was inhaling pollutants and practically dying in that agonising wait for that stupid bus. And when the bus did arrive, oh god oh my... It was not even a Bendy to begin with. And as i got my butt off the seat with difficulty [My butt was already on a verge of forming covalent bonds with the seat from the long wait], i nearly fainted from the sheer number of folks who were jostling to take the bus. Looks like the whole bus stop was being evacuated or so i thought.

And of course, how could i forget our dear SMRT? Does Singapore really lack the passenger demands to provide at least break even passenger loads on the trains? Surely, one doesn't deserve to endure a sardine ride after paying to cover the rising "Operating costs" of the operators?

Before we even talk about creating a truly seamless transport system, let's provide a more ambient transport experience in our buses and trains, shall we? Shouldn't we deserve more than just long sweaty waits and elusive standing rooms?

And SMRT, please please do something about soundproofing in the trains. It's nearly next to impossible to conduct a decent conversation in the tunnels with all the screeching and howling going on incessantly. Are we really going to leave our foreign friends with a lasting impression that our train tunnels double as testing wind tunnels?

Long sweaty waits... cramped rides and deafening rides, are we still residing in the Third World or what? That's precisely the reason why my resolve to own my own ride goes up every single inevitable time i take the public transport. Bah to COE, bah to road tax, bah to ERP. I say i have enough of public transport.
