This New Year's Eve nearly ended up as a blase affair. It was after all plagued from the start. Zw started off by declaring that he will be joining his family around 6 pm. Dan wasn't even around when we came out and Weili dropped a bombshell later on in the day by saying that he would be joining his friend's birthday's celebrations... Last but not least, Urong had to spend the whole day in camp for his COS duty. See what i mean? So from the start, i regretted going out and for a moment i thought of spending New Year's Eve with my family instead.
Yet as it turned out, i still spent my New Year's Eve quite meaningfully... In the morning thanks to the cajoling of yc the previous day, i went to K lunch. Sigh... what a splurge...
I remembered that i went to K lunch the week before only. So after that, we went for a pool session and it was then that Weili gave us his bombshell. As if that wasn't bad enough, yc joined in the assault and announced that he would be joining his family for dinner.... Luckily for me, Dan agreed to come out to spend New Year's Eve under the certain prospect that Zw was going to join his family for the celebrations soon.
At that point, i privately made a mental note not to go out in the future if ever such a situation arises in the future. If you make an effort to come out and everybody appears to leave later on due to some commitments then what's the point of coming out? A flagrant waste of time in my opinion... And naturally, i was peeved then but i restrained myself.
After the routine pool session and the earlier K Lunch, we went around wandering in Somerset, particularly in Centrepoint where we eventually adjourned for a rest. So, i was faced with the possibility of having nothing particular to do on a particularly noteworthy date. Then someone suggested inviting Marleen out. To my surprise, she agreed. As of late, she has been very very busy and logically thus, she has been conspicuously absent from our meetings...
But even that was attached with some conditions that i nearly interpreted her agreement as a refusal... She said that she had a Cell Group and she would only be able to meet us at 2300 hrs which was described as the earliest time possible. So you could imagine the look of consternation on my face then... Dan and I were supposed to rot around in town and then appear some hours later in front of Marleen looking like a heap of moss...
Thankfully, the extent of decay was kept in check as Marleen eventually agreed to meet us about half an hour earlier and zw offered to accompany us to Causeway owing to some unforeseen circumstances over at his family's end. It was during the MRT journey that we began to strike up a highly interesting conversation about attractive people. Think about this... if one day you were leaning against the wall of the train in between 2 carriages and a highly attractive person was standing directly across the aisle, what will you do if merely standing there would make you look as if you were ogling at the person just because he or she happens to be in your line of sight when you are standing there... And of course we talked about some other things as well...
Upon reaching Causeway point, we did what we always do... play pool again yeah we have no life... Dan and i played till yc and Marleen came after which we went to MacDonald's at Civic Plaza to look for zw [of which i totally don't understand the rationale as zw is with his family and he can't entertain us and we look like glaring extras there...] Eventually we looked on as Marleen took her dinner [some rice burger meal i suppose...] We meant to spend out New Year's Eve celebration revelling in the Heartland Countdown next to Causeway point but since Dan and i were totally put off by the crowd, we ended up talking in Macdonald's while the actual countdown took place. In the midst of the conversation, i happen to let slip of something and Dan and the rest happened to know of something that was unknown to them for a very long time...
But i guess the verbal gaffe created a setting favourable for chatting. Marleen, Dan and i ended up chatting till around 5.45 am the next morning... The very looong session helped me to dispel some unfavourable assessments of Marleen...[Shan't elaborate any longer lest i land myself into trouble...]
