the 40 year old virgin

What's wrong with being correct?

Watched the "40 year old virgin" with the Shepherd, "t"asper and Dan yesterday night. After i emerged from the theatre that night, i was wondering what was the thing about the movie that propel it to the top of the movie chart in the States and worse still, kept it there for 2 weeks? (if i'm not wrong) In my opinion, the storyline is clear but not well-developed and that's courtesy of everyone's imagination and cow sense. I say this because say, how many folksy movies have America exported with the main character starring an underdog which is most probably the nerd (a championed underdog in the States)

All right, i guess one of the wows and big ruckus created over the screening might be due to the liberal use of expletives as well as the casual but scant mentioning of racial stereotyping here... For a moment, i thought that the producers were trying to export a F*** culture over here, making the swear word as commonplace as complimentary greetings. But there is something really disturbing about this movie, seriously. If the producers (sorry folks but i seriously don't hold anything towards you guys!) meant to make "Andy" as out of place as possible in the social landscape in America, that i think they should really quit it. Well, I say this because this is really neurotic to begin with. Steve Carell depicts a typical nerd that somehow carried over his nerding ways from school to the workplace. And from his obsession of toy figurines, hoarded as if he owned a shop and the overly mindblowing collection of computer games make people want to project a very detracted view of the "otaku". For your information, an "otaku" is a Japanese term used to describe people in Japan who are lacking in social interaction and skills because they are overly obsessed with anime or manga.

If you really seen the movie, you will know what i mean. The people around him are doing the wrong things and their actions seem to be championed and glorified. Picking up drunk girls and doing something to them don't seem the right thing. Your store manager suggesting to you that you become her sex partner is totally out of the OB marker right? And repeatedly and consistently, the guys keep pressing "Andy" and convince us that sex before a commitment relationship is natural even mandatory. Like i said, i'm not trying to be an fogey trying to blast the movie just because i have a conservative outlook. What i'm unhappy and brooding about is the simple fact that a character that represent all that's right is being put down, have to put up with coercion, humiliation and be browbeaten to a certain extent. Yeah, i do concede that the makers DID make some effort towards the end of the movie to show or portray that "Andy"'s values did prevail in the end but those efforts were scant and the most important thing is that the damage has already been done....
