Rejoice!

I did it! The Nokia 6288 which i owned 3 years ago has officially come back to life! 3 years ago due to the intrusion of corrosive liquids, the data flex cable of the LCD screen was damaged beyond repair. Upon consulting Ebay, it was found that a replacement fee of $60 not inclusive of shipping fee had to be paid for the purchase of an OEM screen.

Nokia Customer Care was beyond question. They claim the warranty was null and void and quoted $140 for repair. Ridiculous.

Three years later here i am. I always thought of salvaging this phone but somehow the price put me off. Then last week i randomly browsed Ebay and realised that prices for the LCD has dropped rock bottom. $10 apiece plus free shipping. I immediately jumped on the offer. 4 days later hey presto! Phone come back to life!

Notice the crisp capture of the font on the LCD screen. If you are mindful enough, you will note that the LCD is itself located below the housing some distance away. Using conventional 9 point focusing algorithms found in most digital cameras, this picture will never have been taken properly.

The answer is manual dial focusing. I am fascinated and delight, least to say that my Canon SX200IS has this function.

12x optical zoom
5~60mm lens
Manual blade aperture control
Shutter speed priority

Well worth my half grand
