The Prof had a very grim face. His greetings were crisp and cordial nonetheless. The grim look on his face soon grew into a frown as I regaled him on a blow by blow account of the dermatological history of my face.

That inaudible look was punctuated with gasps of "what!" when key words such as "exfoliating procedure, isotretinoins, GPs and whatsnow came into the conversation. I felt almost sure that i was being incarcerated for misplacing my trust in GPs when he sneered

"Haught! What do GPs know about dermatology?"
"So have you learnt your lesson already, Mr Tan.?"

I felt quite sure that i shrank from a shirt size 16 to a 15 throughout that cross examination.

He went pacing left and right on his creaky office chair as he scrutinised my face. My self-consciousness grew to epic proportions as he glanced with interest, as if he was looking at a lunar landscape.

And then he unveiled his battle plan.

Firstly, we will deal with the eczema rashes first so as to get them out of the way before we deal with the acne. He deliberated over the use of an antihistamine jab for several moments before deciding that I was better off  consuming oral antihistamines instead. I was given a mild steroid cream to tackle with the nasty rashes that were by now, nesting very comfortably at the ridges of my brows, the bulb of my nose as well as the cheeks.

"Throw away whatever facial wash that you are using now" he boomed.

It was answered with an anaemic yes. I was given erythromycin tablets to consume, purportedly to arrest the whiteheads that have been sprouting out as shanty towns all over.

Now, from my impression of his diagnosis, we have a dilemma.

To treat eczema, we have to apply steroid creams of which rashes will respond well nonetheless. However, steroids have a nasty habit of worsening acne. On the other hand, treatment to address acne often have a propensity of worsening eczema as well.

Oh dammit!

I guess i just have to press on and place faith in Professor Roy Chan. And I will see him again on the 1st of December at 1.05pm! Till then, I will have to combat those nasty monsters on my face!

oh my face... i clamour for a velvety face~~~
