F1 in action, SG style!

After a year of hype, it is finally here as seen on the google tube. I am sure the drivers are as lost as me with regards to the layout of the circuit. Despite being based on city avenues and intersections which i can recall with ease with my spatial memory, the high crash barriers and bright lights have all about rendered my conventional sense of direction hay wire. hahas

Not much people were seen at the grandstands though but it seems that most of the drivers are still cautiously maneuvering the track ostensibly due to their lack of familiarity with the track. One must also not forget that they are not accustomed to driving around at 10.30pm, wee hours by usual F1 driving timings. Add in the 8 hour time difference compared to their native countries plus the jet lag, i think they did really well in their practice laps.

Much praises were heaped on by the commentators, most probably American blokes by the likes of their nasal accents. I would have preferred a British one. Jeremy Clarkson would be good!

What has this got to do with me???

Pretty cool to see super cars zipping at speeds in excess of 200kmph with more down to earth cars were tottering along at more earthly speeds on the Sheares Bridge! Only the practice lap and already the commentators have written off much of the drivers and labelling the inaugural Singtel Grand Prix (pronounced Grant Pree) as nothing more than a three or four horse race. Some excitement were interspersed here and there when we saw an excited N Picquet creating some sparks on the Singaporean tarmac. F. Massa nearly lost control when his tyre sidewalls kissed the imposing crash barrier briefly  and then one joker spun around and lost his front spoilers when he crashed headlong into the said barrier. Ouch...

Oh well, it could have been a multiple collision and some nasty injuries as the commentators put it so it wasn't too bad. Pity the garage guys though.

And just when everyone was centering on both F. Massa and L. Hamilton for their brilliant lap timings, Alonso came on quietly to snatch the top timing for the night. A serious title contender still, this Spaniard. A dark horse to look out for would be N. Rosberg. Neat turns and sweeping runs.

This is the weekend!
