Official Statement

Official Statement on You Rong's situation

To : Concerned friends of You Rong.

Shortly after book out on Friday 19/05/06, You Rong began to exhibit symptoms of unease including weakness and most importantly, a sudden onset of fever. He then went to the Yishun Polyclinic to ameliorate his condition, with company from his mother. On advice from the consulting doctor, he was subsequently advised to seek admittance at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) after undertaking a series of tests in the Polyclinic itself.

He was promptly seen by the duty doctor at the Accident and Emergency Department of TTSH. At this point of time, he was already drifting in and out of consciousness. The doctor placed him on dextrose saline drip as he was ascertained to be in a status that warranted close medical concern. A high fever of 39-40 degree celsius and constipation was noted.

This fever was especially dangerous given You Rong's inherently weak constitution and a documented history of heart murmur. Subsequent checks also revealed that You Rong's heart murmur condition did not ease up from childhood which probably explained why the doctor wanted him to be under observation. This was further excerbated by preliminary findings that were inconclusive in pointing out the factors resulting in the high fever.

You Rong's fever subsided on the following day, 20/05/06 but he remains under observation. At the point of publishing, it is uncertain to determine whether the doctor has reviewed him after the imposed observation period which might shed a more helpful light on his sudden hospitalisation.
