One Day, One Choice

If there is one chance given to me whereby i can choose to live just one day of my life as an animal, i will tell god to let me be a crow for one day. Before I let him do his stuff, i will of course ask him to banish Bird Flu first!

If you are wondering why i suddenly came up with this thought, it's because i suddenly felt that i really take things around me for granted. No doubt about it. I purposely chose to be a crow because it is reputedly an animal with a very strong filial tradition. I often heard of young budding crows which regularly return to feed their aging parents. Thus, i want to be a crow for one day so as to seal the important notion of filial piety within me. No, it's not enough to just seal it within me. I must hardwire it into my brain.

I think the human is a failed creature. We claim to be superior to other species on earth yet our social obligations are fading away. I feel that if i can be an animal other than a human being would allow me to appreciate the importance of friends, the difficulty in securing three meals everyday and the harsh reality of life. These are things which have been excluded from my awareness as an obnoxious human being. I'm getting too obsessed with artificial gains, possessions and wants that are created by our own selfish needs. There no longer exists true altruism in Man. I have lost hope in Mankind. I hope that my stint as a wild animal no matter how short will be enlightening if not, even fruitful than a temporary stay in the Monastery learning the Way.
