If life can be described in its entirety as a sport, i reckon it would be basketball. There are many times where i really want to go all out and be an one-man show, outplaying the entire adversary by my own skill, culminating in a beautiful "through!". To end it all, i will end up with spectators enthralled, teammates amazed, opponents baffled and critics befuddled. Yet at other times, i really enjoy the feeling of being a useful bolt, working critically as part of an entire war effort. A beautiful passing here and there with magical coordination amongst the players. The collaboration is electric and the feeling of being in a winning combination is unparalleled.
Ain't it funny? There are certain moments of great intensified action that paralyses you so, like a pugnacious grip so much so that you really want to call it a day. Suddenly, that spot on the cold backbench look so inviting. You are overwhelmed and just want to get away from the thick of the action, from the insanity. However, i find myself ironically excluded from epic moments. I can just feel it in the blood that that moment is going to be special. That that moment is going to remain remembered and untarnished in the minds of those who witness it. That's when i yearn for the coach to throw me into the fray. To be part of that moment. To allow me a place in the making of history.
To be at the top of the game, i have to train in the most basic of manoeuvres in a gruelling regime. These drills on their own seem to be remotely related to basketball if any at all. Are they of use? Well, in some occasions i really want to whisper thanks to myself for dutifully practising and training for they came in handy. But there are dark periods whereby no one knows what's happening. The captain looks lost and the coach carries a dejected look. This is one of the many times where we are facing a strangely synergised opponent whom we are unaccustomed against . Nothing of our well honed tactics are of value and we just keep playing into their hands. The cause just never seems so far off before. But somehow the game continues and the electronic timer carried on ticking...
If life ain't a game, it's not life
