The Flags shifted limply in the searing heat, barely revealing their actual proportions.
It was just last week when all three flags had flown on half mast as a mark of respect. I remember that i had mused on aloud about the fact that the flags actually flew at "three-quarters" mast instead of the prescribed half mast. Such a glaring neglect revealed a can't-be-bothered attitude .
Naturally at this moment, my thoughts went drifting on about Death and life after that. Someone mentioned once that he believed that he would "cease to exist" after passing. I made a mental note that quite a few others had agreed in chorus too. Is it true though? I'm afraid to say that he might not have been thoroughly correct.
Perhaps, it was a wrong choice of words... He might have meant that one would lose all sense of consciousness after death- the capacity to entertain thoughts will be gone. This is contrary to the popular belief that the individual passes on his consciousness in an spiritual form which consists of merely energy.
But i don't think that the deceased will cease to exist. To proclaim as such is tantamount to insulting the fundamental underlinings of society. Do you think that existence is restricted to the physical form only? What about the memories? Vestiges of memories, faceted and incoherent as they may be but undeniably powerful. Regardless of our interpersonal skills, all of us leave imprints on other people that we come across. Be it happy, sad, pleasant, unpleasant, temporary or permanent, you can't deny the fact that the piece of memory has been archived. A piece of us lives on forever in others. It might manifest itself as a memory, a lifestyle change, a nightmare or a new habit.
Just remember that you will never cease to exist...
