A good book...

Now playing in the background is a song by Whitney Houston titled Love Sweet Love. I liked it because it has a haunting effect and helps to replicate the feelings i had while i was reading the classic "Of Human Bondage"

"Of Human Bondage" was particularly endearing in my opinion because of the main lead in the novel, Philip. This was a book that was given to me as a gift by my tuition teacher way back when i was still in Primary 6. Perhaps it was the yellowing appearance or it might have been due to the ancient-looking ornamental arches, i never picked up the book and only started reading it conscientiously last year.

As i delved further and further into this seemingly ordinary tale of Philip, i felt reveberations as i encountered events in Philip's life that seem to mirror those of my own. That peculiar outlook on life and the eccentric behaviour of him struck me deeply... So much so that i actually asked Urong to read it so as to present to him what i feel is an interesting insight of my life, albeit not totally...Sadly, life in 40 has not been forgiving and he's far from finishing the book.

The experiences that Philip went through captivated me deeply and i was thrown forth into Victorian England. A surreal air seems to have descended on Mt Barebones and i imagined myself walking through dinghy dark alleys with equally dark characters lurking at every corner... in hot and stuffy Mt Barebones.

Ahh... Escape literature, an astounding experience for foolish readers such as i...
