A Chronicle

The day has finally arrived... But somehow i wasn't very revved up for the appointment. Somewhere two weeks ago, i was dying and exasperated at the huge space of time separating 24th Oct and then. Now, no. Maybe this proves that i was overreacting.

Short day indeed. I'm not even sure whether i should call it a short morning cos i was out of camp by 1100 hrs. As i zipped past the industrial estate of Kranji, i was contemplating an option to go home before proceeding to my Medical Appointment at National Skin Centre. The idea was dropped at Woodlands Station. On hindsight, i was glad i did not execute that option as that could have resulted in me being late.

NSC Level 2 Clinic F

I was attended to in a short while. I attribute this to the lack of patients on a heady Monday morning. The doctor was a junior doctor with a senior consultant serving as a mentor. I guess that's the price to pay for a subsidised treatment here. Anyway, she was good at least that was how she felt. She diagnosed me of having moderate-severe acne vulgaris meaning my condition was approaching the ceiling of the moderate spectrum.
My heart sank after she asid that i had scars already. tsk tsk

I was surprised further still at the pharmacy at level 1 later. Within 5 minutes, i found myself checking out of the pharmacy with my medication in tow. Looking at my watch, i saw a cool time of 1346hrs. Wow...

Balestier Road

The toilet seat in the toilet attached to the kitchen has been out of service since last week and my daddy was planning to go down to Balestier Road to buy one. My thinking was, it is early for me, balestier orad is close and petrol prices are absymal. So i went down there myself to save him the hassle. I took a shortcut via Jalan Tan Tock Seng and ended up in the private estate of Balestier. Looking around me, i saw quite and pristine housing, much of them in the form of Condominiums and Bungalows. I suddenly thought of the lives of people living here and wondered if a child living here have a different childhood compared to his peer in the HDB heartland. At this thought, i suddenly thought of Tara.

I walked quite a bit down Balestier Road before i saw the shop specialising in restroom and kitchen fittings. I bought the toilet seat after having the price whittled down by 2 bucks. I walked to the famous herbal shop just down the road and bought myself some Herbal Jelly. Simply awesome, great stuff. So fluid, the jelly can drawl back into the bowl when you thought it was snugly tucked in the spoon. Zesty! Oh yes, this shop's herbal jelly is also critically acclaimed too...

The traditional bakery

I suddenly recalled that there is a bakery in the vicinity, a traditional one with all the bread baked chao ta. The aroma itself will cause you to launch into delirious frenzy! And just when i was contemplating returning home, it started to drizzle and then a downpour quickly took over. The long walk to Thomson Road became miserable.

Ya Kun Coffeestall

After a relatively fast bus journey on board Service 851, i reached home. Along the way, i saw my alma mater. Somehow, it just became another landmark on the road. No more no less. Remembering that the kaya war stock at home is depleted, i happily went to Ya Kun Kaya to buy one. The joker there also happily tell me that the "special edition" kaya housed in a simple box is retailing at $4.60. I happily(you-must-be-joking-type) placed back the limited edition back onto the shelf and bought the plain one. The fella still happily told me that it was retailing at $3.60. After i heard that, the only thing that was happy about me was our dear deceased President's face on my banknote.

~ The end ~
